Mangusta Window Motor Replacement
By Dick Ruzzin I have installed Pantera window motors in my car with a harness created by Eric Hukstra at Burton L. Norton Co. (See contact info below.) I could not be more pleased. They work like windows in a regular car. I am so happy about it and confident that I have removed the small screwdriver from the pocket behind the passenger seat that I used to open or close the windows for the last 36 years when they would stop. After I had the harness and the door panels off it took about two hours to do the whole job. It is not necessary to remove the top of the instrument panel if you can pop the switch plate out from the front. Push down on it to depress the two lower clips and tip it toward you. You then can press the two upper clips down with a small screwdriver and pull it out with the wires attached. Wrap each set of four wires with a wire or plastic tie to keep them together as a set. Following are some technical details: 1. I was able to use the existing wires to hook the harness up, no new wires required. 2. The Pantera motors bolt right in, no modifications required. 3. I was careful to test the motor direction before putting the switch back in the panel. Since the new motors are permanent magnet they draw less current than the original fieldcoil motors so they only require one hot wire from the available two. The windows move a lot faster and the lift mechanism can be adjusted a little tighter to avoid rattles. No groaning or sticking at the top or bottom of the cycle. There is less noise but I am going to try some sound deadening tricks since the door panels are off. Two relays are required to make the motors switch direction.I am sure that many 12 V relays would work, following is the description of the ones used: The relay assembly was made from two Chrysler # 56007067 "Fuel Relay" Assemblies. Remove the ABS Relay from one and replace it with the fuel pump relay of the second. Both relays were together in a bracket that has a hole in it for installation. The instructions are to mount the relays with the wires pointing down. CONTACT INFORMATION:Burton L. Norton Co. (Bill Dykstra will answer the phone) 0-1845 W.
